Uniqlo Demin – Bang for your buck?

I’m considering getting a new pair of jeans for work. Something not too pricy but of good value.

With all the hype with Uniqlo’s recent launch in Singapore, I was wondering… Are their jeans any good?

I refuse to step into Uniqlo store in Tampines One until the hype has died down so am not really sure how they quality has evolved over the years. Back in 2006 when I visited their store in Ginza, I had a good look at their jeans. Pretty sturdy, reminds me of Gap. But I really wonder if those in Singapore are really ‘Made in Japan’ or it’s just a facade?

    hey Christine!

Yes, neither have I! Have the crowds died down? Sure… will definitely go down to have a look to see if they are value for money. Thanks for the heads up!

ain’t sure if the crowds have died down. I would wanna wait for their store to open in Ion Orchard. But I guess, I will wait till early 2010. =) But I really have to say that Uniqlo’s camis really last. Mine last for 2 years after numerous washes.

Yes christine,i agreed with you on Uniqlo’s camis. each time i visit i got to buy at least 2 of it.They are good buy.I own 4 pairs of their shorts which i wear for golf and shopping. As for their jeans,i had heard good comments from my sister in law.
Having said all the good things about Uniqlo,i have no plans to be in the crowd at Tampines 1 yet too.

I think I will be very irritated in Uniqlo with all the jostling! Imagine the time taken just to queue for fitting and payment…=S

Anyway, if anyone has vPost Japan, you can order direct from their website (it is in Japanese only). Their latest arrivals have really nice stuff!

  7. hi there, i’m a big fan of Uniqlo denim – bough a few pairs in Japan and HK 2 years ago and they are still going strong. I paid around MYR 60-70 for 1 pair and reckons they are really good value for $$$. Hope the ones in Spore are just as good – Made in Japan. I’ve not been to the Tampines store yet so can’t tell you more. Let me know on the price range once you’ve managed to get there :-)

    Hey Tanya,

Haven’t found the time to get down to Tampines one. Been hearing its pretty crazy and crowded on weekends so not really relishing the thought of going. Do need another pair of jeans though. Will let you know!

  9. I LOOOOOOVE Uniqlo!

I lived in Tokyo for 2 years and Uniqlo provided the most affordable, quality basicwear… compared to the horrendously expensive clothes at the department stores or fashion boutiques. Their jeans fit me perfectly and don’t shrink or discolour too much in the wash. Better than Giordana or GAP if you ask me. :)

  10. i would say their jeans have generous cuts, which makes it more forgiving for ample figures.

Bang for buck = that would depend on the fit and wash.

But Uniqlo in Singapore needs to restock more frequently. They are always out of sizes.

I see…seems like demand is outstripping supply at the moment.

Will make my way down very soon once I find the time…thanks all for your input!

  12. Their jeans are OK; sometimes I find them too short or too long — never quite the right fit! But I agree — much better than Giodano or GAP, especially in the cut.

GAP used to have better cuts. sad they changed…

  13. “Something not too pricy but of good value.”

If that’s what you’re looking for, then Uniqlo it is. Cheaper than GAP and of higher quality and last longer. Also, forget the hype, you’re getting these jeans for work (well…it depends on where you work…)

  14. chatted with some chinese factory friends the other day and believe it or not, they said Uniqlo’s cutting & jeans engineering are one of the most detailed; it’s very good value when you compare their retail price to the materials and stitches they’re applying. GAP is farrr behind…
