Everyone knows Jane Birkin. Or rather should we say – everyone knows the Birkin bag, a cult item coveted by millions of women.

The story goes Hermès boss, Jean-Louis Dumas was sat next to Birkin on a flight from Paris to London, and the two got talking about how she was struggling to find the perfect weekend bag after the contents of her straw bag fell to the ground from the overhead locker.

But did you know Jane abandoned her Birkins, claiming they were to heavy for her to carry? Instead she donated most of her namesake bags to charity. She is also known for putting beads and stickers on her bags…

And since it would make our hearts bleed to see a Birkin pierced with a bead or stained with glue… We will just put some pretty Jane Birkin photos here.
